Suriname LGBT workplace conference sets new milestone
June 9, 2016
Congratulations go to Workplace Pride partner in Suriname, PAREA, for leading the charge in the 1st LGBT workplace conference in the country!
The event, held today in the capital city Paramaribo, was standing room only and captured the interest of the media and many social, governmental and business parties in the country.
Rudolf Elias, Managing Director of Staatsoilie, the largest company in Suriname, outlined how his organization is setting the tone with a clearly inclusive policy for LGBT inclusion. Acting ambassador of the Dutch Embassy to Suriname, Mascha Baak, made the connection with her own country’s well-known support for LGBT inclusion and the milestone that Suriname was making with this event.
To keep the progress going, PAREA Chair, Juan Pigot pledged to work with all parties on this topic to create a clear guideline for how to proceed with LGBT workplace inclusion. Completion of the guideline is targeted May 17th 2017 (IDAHO) so watch this space!
Workplace Pride was pleased to cooperate with Parea on the event, with Executive Director, David Pollard and Advisory Board member, Boris Dittrich taking part as keynote speakers.
