Achmea Roze Maandag
July 26, 2011
The Kermis (Carneval) in Tilburg is a 440-year-old tradition in this Southern Dutch town. Although with only a tradition of 20 years, Roze Maandag, (Pink Monday) is also a well-know part of the Kermis. It celebrates homosexuality and tolerance towards LGBT people in all their colorful forms.
To commemorate Roze Maandag, CPP Member Achmea’s LGBT employee network, HoLA!, hosted an event on Roze Maandag, 25 July, at Achmea’s impressive (and pink) Interpolis office in the center of Tilburg. This event, which was co-sponsored by the CPP, brought together parties from both inside and outside of Achmea. CPP Member Cisco was represented by Mr. Coks Stoffer, CEO of Cisco Netherlands, who spoke at the event about how important it is to foster visibility for LGBT people in the workplace. According to Coks, this is the most important way to support all types of diverse people in organizations and to pave the way for greater understanding, ultimately leading to a ‘win/win’ situation for both employees and employers.
Achmea’s HoLA! is unique among CPP Members in that it has established a number of ‘touch-points’ throughout the country which act as a channel of information about LGBT issues for both employees and management.
